β-PMTX was originally isolated from Anoplius samariensis and Batozonellus maclifrons wasps. This is a synthetic version of the peptide.
β-PMTX is a homologous peptide to α-PMTX (position 12 is Arginine instead of Lysine). β-PMTX induces repetitive action potentials and facilitates both excitatory and inhibitory synaptic transmission.
Recently it was found that this toxin slows the Na+-channel inactivation, without changing the peak current-voltage relationship or the activation time course of the TTX-sensitive Na+ currents in the neuromuscular synapse of the lobster walking leg and in the rat trigeminal ganglion neurons.1-3 β-PMTX is five times more potent than α-PMTX.1,2
β-Pompilidotoxin (#P-180) is a highly pure, synthetic, and biologically active peptide toxin.
