Scientific background
Okadaol, is a chemically modified derivative of the polyether Okadaic Acid, a natural toxin from the black marine sponge Halichondria okadai. Okadaol is produced by the reduction of the C1 carboxyl group of okadaic acid1. The modification significantly decreases the inhibitory potency for serine/threonine protein phosphatases 1 and 2A compared to the parent molecule1,2.
